September is one of our favourite months for dog walks. The days are still light enough to enjoy longer outings, but there is usually a definite hint of autumn in the air.
It is also a good time to give your dog’s walking kit a quick check. Make sure their harness still fits comfortably, particularly if their weight or coat has changed over the summer. You should be able to slide two fingers comfortably beneath the straps without the harness being loose enough to twist or move around.
Leads and collars are worth checking too. Look for worn stitching, damaged clips or anything that has started to fray after a summer of adventures.
As the weather becomes wetter, paws can also need a little extra attention. Mud, rough paths and colder ground can leave paw pads feeling dry, so washing off mud after walks and checking between the toes can help keep them comfortable.
And then there is the best part of autumn, choosing the walking gear. September is when richer colours, tartans and woodland-inspired designs really come into their own.
At Pipkin and Bella, we think a good dog walk should be comfortable, practical and still leave room for a little personality.
